THE INTERNATIONAL Federation of Association Football – known as FIFA – unveiled the official emblem and slogan for the FIFA under 20’s Women’s World Cup, the eighth in the Association’s history.
Event organisers said the launch date of 8 March, which coincided with International Women’s Day, was a perfect fit for the tournament that aims to inspire and encourage girls and women through football.
The official emblem connects Papua New Guinean culture to the tournament by utilising the recognisable shape of the official trophy of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup as a canvas, and incorporating the country’s heritage and nature through a range of design and colour elements.
FIFA marketing director Thierry Weil said the body was pleased to see the excitement and enthusiasm with which the event was being greeted.
“It is an honour to reveal the emblem that reflects the unique beauty and the spirit of hospitality of Papua New Guinea, which are essential to the success of the event,” he said.
The official tournament slogan – “To Inspire, To Excel” – encapsulates the event’s ultimate goal, to use football as a platform to push for gender equality, FIFA said.
Also launched was the official look, a flexible asset that visually connects all parts of the tournament, from the event materials to stadium dressing and across various other platforms.
The official look for the tournament also takes graphic elements from traditional Papua New Guinean designs, FIFA said.
