PAPUA New Guinea tour operator Sport Fishing PNG & Boat Charters introduced the K20, a new addition to its fleet, PNG Tourism Promotion Authority (TPA) announced.

The K2O is a 23.5 metre long and 7.5 metre wide catamaran, custom built to explore the rivers and seas of PNG.

TPA said it arrived in mid-2014 from Australia and the vessel had been tested in PNG’s waters and proven to be seaworthy as well as safe to use in rivers.

Boasting the latest in marine engineering technology, the vessel has state-of-the-art navigation and communication equipment, TPA said.

K2O offers lodgers, four twin-share deluxe cabins and two staterooms with suites to accommodate a maximum of 10 people.

TPA said the six member crew has over two decades of experience in navigation, angling, tour guiding and hospitality in PNG.

Guests have access to a freezer room, laundry services, medical kit, television lounge area, fully air-conditioned rooms, ice-making machine, tea/coffee, five shower room/toilets and a satellite phone, TPA explained.

Sport Fishing PNG & Boat Charters offers tour packages in remote locations, such as, the Fly River in the Western Province to chase PNG’s infamous Black Bass, offering anglers a challenge, but family fishing tours and adventure trips are also available to explore the islands and waters of Milne Bay Province, TPA said.

Sports Fishing PNG & Boat Charters owner Jason Yip said PNG was home to some of the best fishing in the world.

“Our PNG Black Bass – found only in our waters – is still an unheard of fish species,” he said.

“Through our tours we hope to showcase our incredible Black Bass and provide unforgettable fishing trips and adventures.”

Mr Yip was the International Games Fishing Association 2013 ‘All Tackle World Record Holder’ for his capture of a PNG Black Bass, TPA said.
