TRAINING is now on offer at the Mineral Resources Authority’s (MRA) Wau small scale mining training centre in Morobe.
Enrolments opened in March, with the centre offering courses on four levels, with each level taking two weeks to complete.
On level one, students learn basic small scale mining (SSM) practice and on level two they study semi-mechanised SSM practice, the MRA said.
A look at mechanised SSM practice is part of level three and then planning and management of SSM is included in level four training.
Self-sponsor fees for all levels range from K270 to K800, while those under corporate sponsorship will be charged fees ranging from K370 to K1,000, the MRA said.
The courses are delivered in a holistic approach and target small scale miners, local gold buyers, potential miners and individuals or organisations who wish to learn about this important economic sector.
Course fees will go towards accommodation, three meals a day and laundry services which will be provided throughout the course period, the MRA said.
