IN RECOGNITION of the 2015 Pacific Games, OK Tedi Mining hosted a mini-Games for the Tabubil community in Western Province.
The mini-Games was organised for children from primary schools in the Tabubil community and mine villages currently on school term break to enjoy together as part of the 2015 Pacific Games spirit.
These were part of the Pacific Games celebration activities hosted by OK Tedi.
Over 100 children participated in athletics events and ball games such as football, tunnel ball and soccer, in early July.
For the athletics events, children between the ages of seven and 17 were arranged into groups and allotted national countries, which were PNG, Solomon Islands, Fiji and Vanuatu.
The competition was arranged into junior boys/ girls (seven to 10), intermediate boys/girls (11 to 13), and senior boys/girls (14 to 17).
They contested various sprint distances including 400 metres (m), 200m, 100m, 75m and 50m sprints for the younger competitors.
Relays were conducted over the 100m and 200m distances.
In keeping with the friendly atmosphere of the 2015 Pacific Games, no official winner was declared at the completion of the athletics competition, the company said.
All participants were rewarded with a medal in recognition of their efforts.
