PNG Prime Minister Peter O’Neill has named two ministers with a noticeable difference in experience to handle the critical Mining and Petroleum and Energy portfolios in his new Cabinet.

Fabian Pok, who has been named as Petroleum and Energy Minister, was first elected  Parliament in the 1997 General Elections as an independent .

He was appointed Minister for Forests from July 1997-July 1998, then responsibilities as Minister for Public Enterprise and Minister for Communications from April 1998 till resignation from the Skate government in June 1999.

He then led a bloc of independent MP’s in the formation of the Morauta government in July 1999. Joined PDM after formation of government.

He was named in Sir Mekere Morauta’s caretaker cabinet as Minister for Trade and Tourism, Commerce and Industry, and Police in July 1999 and confirmed Minister for Lands and Physical Planning later that mont, then given added responsibilities as Minister for Petroleum and Energy in March 2000 till November 2000. He relinquished Lands and Physical Planning portfolio in April 2000. Appointed Minister for Labor and Employment on the 21/10/2001.

He served as Minister for Defence in the previous government.

Johnson Tuke, who has been named as Mining Minister, is taking up his first Ministerial position.

Representing Kainantu Open, he comes from an area with a string mining history.

He recently graduated in public policy management from the University of Papua New Guinea.
