THE Lae Game Fishing Club will host the 2014 Papua New Guinea Games Fishing Association (GFA) National Titles in April.

Over the years, the tournament has become PNG’s largest sporting event with up to 450 anglers participating and budget of over K500,000.

Conservation of all species is encouraged by the GFA with the recent introduction of a tag and release section to the tournament which mirrors the capture section trophy categories.

The format is for a team to fish any two days out of the nine that the titles are held over.

While cash prizes for a specific target do exist, the big draw card for entrants is to be the National Champion and take home a trophy for the mantelpiece.

The nutrient-rich oceans and shifting tropical climate of PNG nurtures one of the most diverse marine life in the world – making fishing in this destination world-class.

The event will run from 11 to 21 April
