NEWCREST Mining has appointed David Woodall as the executive general manager of its international operations, responsible for the Lihir Mine in Papua New Guinea.
Mr Woodall, a mining engineer with a strong operations background, will also be responsible for Newcrest’s Indonesian and Côte d’Ivoire operations.
Mr Woodall has almost 30 years in the industry, working for Australian and international mining companies.
His most recent role was director of operations at Fortescue Metals Group.
Executive general manager of PNG operations, Brett Fletcher, will be leaving Newcrest at the end of February 2014.
Commercial and West Africa executive general manager Lawrie Conway will also leave Newcrest at the end of March 2014 following a ten year stint with the company.
Acting chief operating officer Craig Jones assumes the role of EGM for Australian operations and projects, reporting to future managing director Sandeep Biswas.
The changes to Newcrest’s leadership team are in line with a renewed push on productivity improvements and cost reductions, it said.
