A CRUISE Ship Technical Working Committee (TWC) has been set up in a joint effort by relevant government agencies to address impediments in Papua New Guinea’s cruise tourism sector.
TWC has been established to explore available options in addressing the issue of clearance of cruise ships – specifically those entering via undeclared points of entry.
The committee will then provide recommendations on the way forward in addressing the issue and to attract and help sustain tourism from cruise operators into PNG.
Membership of the TWC has been drawn from PNG Tourism Promotion Authority,PNG Ports Corporation, National Agriculture Quarantine Inspection Authority, National Maritime Safety Authority, PNG Customs Service, PNG Immigration & Citizenship Service Authority, Department of Transport and Department of Health.
After its deliberations, the TWC will provide its recommendations to the respective heads of their organisations.
The heads of these organisations will then convene to accept these recommendations and provide leadership and direction to implement the recommendations.
