AIR Energi has received a Good Corporate Citizen award (GCC) for its commitment to employing and training Papua New Guineans as well as compliance with labour and immigration laws.
Developed by the Department of Labour and Industrial Relations, the GCC award is a legislative requirement under the Employment of Non-Citizens Act, which is issued every two years.
The initiative recognises organisations for contributions towards the training and development of PNG citizens.
Department of Labour and Industrial Relations secretary Dr George Vaso presented the award to PNG regional manager Calum Smith and Work Permits and Visa manager Loa Raka.
“We employ over 400 contractors and make 250 permanent placements in PNG annually,” Mr Smith said.
“Furthermore, we have employed over 40 graduates in the last 12 months through our graduate scheme the Langley program which was launched in 2012.”
Ms Raka added “As a recipient of the GCC we will now be eligible to apply for five year work permits, as opposed to the maximum of three years, and have priority processing of the work permits.”
